WHO’s cancer research agency to say aspartame sweetener a possible carcinogen
In July, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the cancer research arm of the World Health Organization (WHO), is expected to declare aspartame, one of the world's most widely used artificial sweeteners, as "possibly carcinogenic to humans," according to two sources with knowledge of the process. This would put the food industry and regulators in opposition to the IARC's decision, as aspartame is used in many products, such as Coca-Cola diet sodas, Mars' Extra chewing gum, and some Snapple drinks.0
