Thousands of sea turtles have been found washed up on the beaches of South Padre Island, Texas due to the sudden and extreme cold snap. Volunteers have rescued around 4,700 of them and are keeping them in tubs and enclosures until the water warms up enough for them to be released. Wendy Knight, executive director of Sea Turtle Inc, has stated that this is an unprecedented event, as normally only 100-500 turtles would wash up on the beaches in south Texas each winter.0
