Senegalese plant circular gardens in Green Wall defence against desert
Moussa Kamara, 47, works at his bakery every night, but at sunrise he now begins a second job of hoeing the earth and tending newly sown seeds in a circular garden. This project, known as 'Tolou Keur' in Senegal's Wolof language, is designed to create hundreds of such gardens in the Boki Dawe area near the border with Mauritania. It is hoped that this will improve food security, reduce desertification, and involve thousands of community workers. Kamara believes that the garden will be even more important than the bakery for feeding his extended family, including 25 children.0
