Scientists count the world’s tree species
The researchers have created the world's largest forest database, which includes 44 million individual trees from over 100,000 sites in 90 countries. This data has enabled them to calculate that there are approximately 73,300 tree species on Earth, which is 14% higher than previous estimates. Of this total, around 9,200 species have yet to be identified by science, with many of them located in South America.0
