Once called crazy, Indonesian eco-warrior turns arid hills green
Sadiman, who is affectionately referred to as 'mbah' or 'grandpa', was once thought of as crazy by his fellow villagers. However, after 24 years of hard work, he has managed to turn barren hills into lush green areas, providing water resources in a drought-prone mountainous region. The 69-year-old has been planting banyan trees in the hills of central Java, in order to prevent the area from drying up due to fires used for land cultivation. Wearing his signature ranger hat and safari shirt, Sadiman is determined to continue his mission of restoring the land.0
