Olympics-Cycling-Italy beat Denmark in thrilling team pursuit final
Italy won gold in the men's team pursuit final at the Izu Velodrome on Wednesday, producing an electrifying finish to beat favourites Denmark. Filippo Ganna powered the Azzurri back in the closing laps and they crossed the line in 3:42.032 to lower the world record they set in Tuesday's heats, with the Danes an agonising 0.166 slower. The quartet of Ganna, Simone Consonni, Francesco Lamon and Jonathan Milan celebrated wildly at the finish, thumping their fists into their chests, after ending their country's long wait for an Olympic gold medal in the event since their record seventh in 1960.0
