Olympics-Beach volleyball-America’s Ross and Klineman beat Australia for gold
On Friday, April Ross and Alix Klineman of the United States won the first Olympic gold medal in women's beach volleyball for the U.S. since 2012, defeating Mariafe Artacho del Solar and Taliqua Clancy of Australia. With chants of "U-S-A" from 20 team administrative staff members, the American duo started off strong and won the match 21-13, 21-15 in an otherwise empty arena, despite the sweltering temperatures of up to 45°C (113°F) on the sand court and 32°C (90°F) off court. Ross commented that it was meaningful to hear their delegation cheering them on, and that they still felt the importance of the match.0
