Little fluffy clouds may help save Australia’s Great Barrier Reef
Australian scientists are attempting to slow the rate of coral bleaching on the Great Barrier Reef by spraying droplets of ocean water into the sky to form clouds. This Cloud Brightening project utilizes a turbine to disperse microscopic sea particles to thicken existing clouds and reduce the amount of sunlight that reaches the world's largest coral reef ecosystem. The water droplets evaporate, leaving only salt crystals which float up into the atmosphere and allow water vapour to condense around them, forming clouds. Daniel Harrison, a senior lecturer at Southern Cross University, is in charge of the project.0
