Labour’s Sadiq Khan re-elected London mayor
Sadiq Khan was re-elected London Mayor on Saturday, as had been predicted, bringing some joy to the Labour Party which has had a series of unsatisfactory outcomes in other local elections. Khan, who was the first Muslim to lead a major Western capital after his success in 2016, defeated his main rival, Shaun Bailey, the Conservative Party candidate backed by Prime Minister Boris Johnson. He won by 55.2% to Bailey’s 44.8%, although his margin of victory was less than his triumph five years ago.0
