Ahmad Khalil Mayan, the program director of a large Kabul orphanage, has had to reduce the amount of fruit and meat he gives the children each week due to a lack of funds. This is a result of the Afghan Taliban taking control of the country and the sudden disappearance of millions of dollars in aid. Mayan, 40, has been trying to contact both foreign and local donors who previously supported the orphanage, but has had no luck. “Most of them have left the country – Afghan donors, foreign donors, embassies. When I call them or email them, no one is answering me,” he said to Reuters at the Shamsa Children’s Village in the north of the capital.0
