Climate set to dominate G20 summit ahead of U.N. conference
At the G20 summit in Rome this weekend, leaders of the world's 20 largest economies will meet in person for the first time in two years. Despite the challenges ahead, the meeting is seen as a crucial step towards a successful outcome at the United Nations' COP26 climate summit in Glasgow later this month. The G20 is divided on issues such as phasing out coal and limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit), leaving diplomats with limited time to reach an agreement. Many of the leaders attending the Rome summit, including U.S. President Joe Biden, will then travel to Scotland for the COP26 climate summit, which is seen as essential to addressing the dangers of rising temperatures.0
