Busy bees in Colombia get respite in bamboo hotels
In Barbosa, Colombia, the Aburra Valley Metropolitan Authority has constructed small hotels for solitary bees to rest and recuperate after a hard day of pollinating. The hotels are made of wood and have acrylic roofs to protect them from the rain. Inside, the hexagonal structures are filled with bamboo canes to accommodate bees of all sizes. According to Hector Ivan Valencia, an assistant for the local authority's risk management unit, the hotels provide a "quiet moment" for the bees before they set off again.0
