On Sunday, August 29, Hurricane Ida made landfall in Louisiana as a Category 4 storm, bringing with it 150 mile-per-hour winds, heavy rain, and huge waves that flooded much of the coastline. As a result, all eight transmission lines that supply electricity to New Orleans were knocked out, causing a power outage in the entire metropolitan area. Additionally, a transmission tower collapsed into the Mississippi River, according to the Jefferson Parish Emergency Management Department.0
