Below a pyramid, a treasure trove sheds new light on ancient Mexican rites
For more than a decade, archeologist Sergio Gomez has been excavating a tunnel beneath the Feathered Serpent Pyramid in Teotihuacan, Mexico. The tunnel has yielded an unprecedented amount of artifacts, including statues, jewelry, shells, ceramics, and thousands of wooden and metallic objects. These items have been cataloged and are believed to have been placed there by priests around 2,000 years ago. Teotihuacan is now a popular tourist destination near Mexico City.0
