‘Stop denying racism, start dismantling it,’ U.N. rights chief says
Nations should take action to combat racism by beginning to dismantle it, establishing reparations programmes, and holding law enforcement officials accountable for unlawful killings of people of African descent, according to the U.N. human rights chief Michelle Bachelet. Bachelet's report was prompted by the death of George Floyd, an African American, at the hands of a police officer in Minneapolis in May 2020. She noted that racial profiling and excessive force by police is widespread in North America, Europe, and Latin America. Additionally, structural racism creates obstacles for minorities in terms of employment, healthcare, housing, education, and justice.0
