‘Now or never’: Only severe emissions cuts will avoid climate extremes -U.N. report
Despite the warnings from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) since 1990, global emissions have continued to increase and have now reached their highest level ever. This means that the 1.5 degrees C warming limit set out in the 2015 Paris Agreement is likely to be exceeded, with temperatures projected to reach 3.2 degrees C by the end of the century. U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed his disappointment, noting that current climate pledges would still lead to a 14% increase in emissions, and that most major emitters are not taking the necessary steps to meet these inadequate promises.0
